THE FANTASTIQUE
I was born in Detroit, and when thinking of my past, I tend to remember my grandmother’s fine choices in hand painted wallpaper and fancy concept cars at the annual auto show. Design became my life from the age of 14 when I was introduced to the print shop. From offset printing school detention slips to screen printing my own posters, I established an early and strong relationship with tools and materials. Infatuated by the aesthetic imperfection of the manual process, I find "progress through process" as a fundamental working principal.
Design is more then just a job, it is a way of thinking. CalArts was a perfect stepping stone, teaching me design freedom. Having the know-how to use tools and materials to the fullest, to continuously strive and to embrace the idea of “Fail Harder”. Taking perceived accidents of the process and growing them into intentional complete valid components of the final project is my favorite aspect of design. In this exploration, through my everyday tools, I have started to sculpt my identity.
There is movement happening in the world, in defining societal and personal freedom. Having an emotional, assertive, bold, heightened, declared helps me to question societal complacency within my personal work and expanding into my commercial goals of "public displays of affection." Emotional connectivity through changing spaces and points of views.
The Fantastique is the creative extension of Ms. Anne Coté. Working within Portland, OR has submerged her work into the world of Nike, always excepting new projects and ideas, say hello!
